The ABC’s of window treatments
Embellishments are details that we add to our window treatments to make them more interesting and to express our style.
Fringes and tiebacks are the most popular way to add detail and emphasize curves. I made these sheers from a Kravet fabric that has flowers embroidered on it.
Pillows are a great place to showcase embroidery and this one has antique French metallic embroidery on yellow silk moire fabric.

Greek key trim is used to outline the panels, valance and coverlet in this bedroom. I can’t remember where I found this picture, tell me if you know ……….
A hand pleated ruffle is a nice detail for the bottom of valances and on the edges of duvet covers. Notice the valance below also has a cording on top of the ruffle.
I can’t wait to do an applique like this one that Susan Kostelecky showed our WCAA group at a recent meeting.
Buttons are a nice touch on these london shades by Sally at Holbrook Hills. They can also be used on pillows, valances and panels.
I can think of at least ten other embellishments but I’m going to save some for the rest of the alphabet !
What’s your style …………… Plain Jane or Jazzed up ?

Definitely jazzed up, Tammy! I love trims and embellishments about as much as I love fabric {which is a lot}! They are like the jewelry on the window treatment to me.
It's the embellishments and the custom details that make designing with fabric so much fun. Can't wait to see your applique...used to know how to do that, but the years have not been kind!
Enjoyed your E's.
Beautiful pictures and buttons are a favorite.
Love embellishments. I scatter a few around, but truth be told I'm probably more on the plain side.

I was enjoying your blog and photos and then thought "hey, I recognize that trim!" from the photos from my trunk show for your group. Thanks for including me in your photos! It was a fun surprise and I enjoy your blog.

oh wow. that gray room. the drapery just speaks to me. i love it xo
I love a jazzed up curtain...nothing tooo wild, but a lovely trim can really take a panel to the next level, in my humble opinion!
I love to see a touch of trim, embellishment etc. Just enough to give the designer touch. Love the applique and to know how it is done!
Giveaway is on my site!

Embellishments all the way, baby!!
Tammy, in that first picture you can see a hint of the ceiling. Was that a flat bronze or faux texture.. looks gorgeous. Sorry, I know the subject is embellishments but I have a wandering eye!! :-)
Sarah, embellishments are what make our job fun ! The walls are hand painted so I'm thinking the ceiling is more than just flat bronze. I'll have to check on that...
I really need to add more embellishments in my home. Often it's the least expensive update.
Jazzed up!
I am a "jazzed up" gal, all the way! I design like I dress... MORE IS MORE! And I love the antique French metallic embroidery on that pillow! GORGEOUS!
