Fabric Friday

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and got to enjoy time with family and friends. I know we did ! All of the Christmas decorations are put away and I’m ready to tackle the family room windows.

I’m obsessing over blue, peacock blue in particular and Nate’s room is my inspiration. Just look at those gold rods !    *sigh

I’ve been pinning lots of blue draperies…………..

I’m loving solid panels and patterned panels both ………

I started with these four fabric choices…….

Then narrowed my choices to the Duralee Ikat  on the right and a solid peacock blue like the ones below.

If I go with a solid then I could add an orange trim detail like this.

I have the motorized drapery track from Somfy and the wood pole fascia is painted gold now I just need to order the fabric and make the ripplefold panels.

Inspiration Photo

Most of us are very visual and that is why photos and sketches are so helpful for communicating between client/designer and workroom. The pink shade below could be called a relaxed roman shade, a balloon shade or a london shade.

When the designer sends me a photo and says, “ I want this but with less folds at the bottom, “ then I can make this…………. and call it a modified london shade.

Or we can work from sketches to design the perfect window treatment for you.

Christmas Mantel

For all the fabric lovers and fabric hoarders, this is a great way to use scraps to make holiday crafts that coordinate with your home. Last year I made some fabric Christmas trees and stockings and there is a link to some great instructions on that post.

Mantels

The smaller ones are made from empty spools of thread and the larger ones are made from pellon from the workroom.

I wanted to bring in some non traditional colors so I used a fun fringe on the stockings.

Next year I’m thinking about a mantle scarf. This one is really
pretty but I’ll probably attach a fringe to the edge.

Goodbye Snookie Family Room

I’ve been tackling the family room one project at a time and thought I’d give you an update. You’ve heard me talk about wanting to change the paint color because BM Dark Mustard was feeling like Snookie’s spray tan ! It was such a warm color that it was too much for NC summers.

So, Mr. Stitches and I painted it SW Rice Grain. If I ever mention painting again remind me that I couldn’t walk for 2 days after, it was like a 9 hour step class !

SW Rice Grain

The first thing my son said was, “Wow, it’s so clean in here !” Clean is good, right ?

Then I gave my sofa away and got this slipcovered one from Craig, you know Craigslist.

Then I switched rugs with the kitchen. I love the paisley one in there…. need to take a pic for you. Finally, the goose end table got a fresh coat of gold paint. Did I tell you how glad I am that gold and brass are coming back ?

I know what you’re thinking, “Where are the drapery lady’s drapes ?”  Well, I won a Somfy motorized drapery track at the WCAA convention and it just arrived yesterday ! I’m going to push a button and they will open and close…… awesome. But, I have to make new ones because the old ones won’t fit. You see that peacock blue sample up there ? I’m loving that color, just need to find the perfect fabric. My Christmas tree is on the right side of the window so I’ll get them made and ready to install after the holidays.

What about you….. Have you started any decorating chain reactions lately ?
